Dordt College hosts Biotech Ag Tours

March 21, 2014

More than 120 high school students and teachers from Northwest Iowa participated in the Dordt College Biotech Ag Tours on Monday, March 17, touring agriculture related businesses in the Sioux Center area. Students toured and learned about Dykstra Dairy near Struble, Natural Food Holdings, Sioux Pharm, and Trans Ova Genetics. Mini tours of Dordt College were also given.

The Dordt College agriculture department uses this annual event to educate students about agriculture and biotechnology by showing them the wide range of careers that exist in those areas.

Guest speaker Brad Kooima, commodity broker and partner with Kooima-Kaemingk Commodities of Sioux Center, Iowa, spoke about the numerous career opportunities available in agriculture. He shared a need for people who see their career as a service to humanity and view integrity, honesty, respect, humility, and service as foundational.

High schools participating in the biotech ag tours included Akron-Westfield, Harris-Lake Park, Kingsley-Pierson, Okoboji, Sioux Center, Western Christian, and West Lyon high schools.

Dordt College is one of only a handful of Christian colleges in North America to offer a four-year agriculture program. To learn more about the program, visit
