Dr. John Walker to perform piano recital March 28

Dr. John Walker, director of keyboard studies at South Dakota State University, will present a guest piano recital on March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. This is a free performance open to the public.

Performing works by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn, Walker will be joined by SDSU assistant professor of clarinet Michael Walsh and Dordt College adjunct professor of bassoon Leah Walker.

Walker holds the doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, master of music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and bachelor of music from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Walker is professor of music and director of keyboard studies at South Dakota State University, and principal keyboardist for the South Dakota State Orchestra. His performances include solo appearances with the South Dakota Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, the Diablo Symphony and Contra Costa Chamber Orchestras in California, and the Shasta and Paradise Symphony Orchestras in northern California.

Recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Performer Award and the F.O. Butler Award for Faculty Excellence in Creative Activity, Walker has performed in Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia, and throughout the American Midwest.
