April 23, 2014

Dordt College will present its final choral ensemble concert of the academic year on Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Choral groups include Bella Voce, Kantorei, Chorale, and Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Kornelis.

Bella Voce will perform Eatnemen Vuelie (which some may recognize from the film Frozen) and Long Time Traveller as sung by The Wailin’ Jennys.

Kantorei will sing works by John Amner and Giuseppe Pitoni, and arrangements of the jazz standards You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To and Java Jive.

Chorale will sing works by Knut Nystedt and Gabriel Fauré, as well as Roy Hopp’s God of Grace and God of Laughter, featuring freshman Ashley Verhoef (Sanborn, Iowa) on violin. The Chorale men will sing Grieg’s Brothers, Sing On!

Concert Choir will sing two songs by Stephen Sondheim, and John Muehleisen’s three-movement work, Eat Your Vegetables, which will feature Dordt alumna Susan LeMahieu on clarinet.

The evening will conclude with a combined performance by the Chorale and Concert Choir.

Dordt College has approximately 300 students participating in the music program, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
