Dordt Track At Nationals (Results)

(Tuesday, May 19; Sioux Center, Iowa)    The Dordt College track and field program will send 15 athletes to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Thursday, May 22-Saturday, May 24.

Four relays, the women’s 4 x 100, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 and the men’s 4 x 800 will all compete starting Thursday at 2:30 with the prelims of the 4 x 100.  Dordt’s first individual competitor will be Lauren Opp in the women’s 10,000 meters.

Opp, Katie Bonnema and Christy Heidema all return to the outdoor championships after earning NAIA All-American status at the event in 2013.  Both the women’s and men’s 4 x 800 relay teams earned sixth place finishes last year and the women’s 4 x 400 team finished fifth in 2013.

Thursday, May 22
2:30 pm Women’s 4 x 100 prelim--  Sarah Faber (Junior; Pella, Iowa), Marisa Broersma (Sophomore; Sunnyside, Washington), Jasmin Schelhaas (Sophomore; Pella, Iowa), Robyn Blount (Sophomore; St. Paul, Minnesota)  ran a 48.29 in the prelims and does not advance to finals.
5:40 pm Women’s 4 x 800 trials--   Kelsey Lewis (Freshman; Lachine, Michigan), Kayla Byl (Sophomore; Ireton, Iowa), Justine Van Zee (Freshman; Sioux Falls, South Dakota), Lillie Koerner (Junior; Freeman, South Dakota) ran a 9:11.68 which earns a spot in the finals on Friday.
6:15 pm Men’s 4 x 800 trials--   Sam Wensink (Freshman; Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin), Stephan McNamara (Sophomore; Chatham, Ontario), Tim Bierma (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa), Trent Kischer (Junior; Albert City, Iowa)  placed second in heat and qualified for the finals with a time of 7:36.80.
7:50 pm Women’s 10,000-- Lauren Opp (Junior; Garner, Iowa)  ran a 37:21.43 and placed 7th earning NAIA All-American status.

Friday, May 23
1:30 pm Women’s 100 hurdles--  Robyn Blount (Sophomore; St. Paul , Minnesota) ran a :15.24 and will not advance to the finals.
2:00 pm Women’s 800 prelim--  Katie Bonnema (Senior; Ireton, Iowa) ran a 2:08.58 which was the second fastest in the prelims and qualifies for the finals on Saturday.
5:30 pm Women’s Triple Jump--  Christy Heidema (Senior; Ridgetown, Ontario) 36-10.25 performance and placed 16th.
5:30 pm Women’s 4 x 800 final--Kelsey Lewis (Freshman; Lachine, Michigan), Kayla Byl (Sophomore; Ireton, Iowa), Justine Van Zee (Freshman; Sioux Falls, South Dakota), Lillie Koerner (Junior; Freeman, South Dakota)ran a 9:04.62 and placed second.
5:50 pm Men’s 4 x 800 final--Sam Wensink (Freshman; Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin), Stephan McNamara (Sophomore; Chatham, Ontario), Tim Bierma (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa), Trent Kischer (Junior; Albert City, Iowa) ran a 7:39.30 and placed fourth.
7:45 pm Women’s 4 x 400 semis--  Jasmin Schelhaas (Sophomore; Pella, Iowa), Marisa Broersma (Sophomore; Sunnyside, Washington), Robyn Blount (Sophomore; St. Paul, Minnesota), Katie Bonnema (Senior; Ireton, Iowa) ran a 3:52.24 and will not qualify for the finals.

Saturday, May 24
2:00 pm Women’s High Jump-- Mycah Hulst (Sophomore; Byron Center, Michigan) cleared 5-4.25 and tied for 11th.
4:50 pm Women’s 800 final--Katie Bonnema (Senior; Ireton, Iowa) ran a 2:10.79 and placed sixth.
