GPAC Football Poll Released

(Thursday, August 7; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference pre-season coaches’ poll has been released for the 2014 season.

The Dordt College Defenders, who open the season on Saturday, September 6 in a non-conference game against Dakota State at home, were voted tenth in the poll.

The Defenders will open the GPAC season in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, September 13 against Midland at 1:00.  The Dordt schedule includes five home games and a second non-conference game against Trinity Bible (North Dakota) on October 11.

Morningside took nine first place votes in the voting and with 81 points is the pre-season pick to repeat as regular season champions.

Points are awarded on a 9-1 basis (first place vote worth nine points) and coaches are not allowed to vote for their team.

Games for the 2014 season kick off on Saturday, August 30 with Northwestern hosting Bacone (OK) and Briar Cliff hosting Benedictine (Kansas) in non-conference play.  The GPAC schedule will consist of nine games with one by week in the conference.  League games begin September 13.
