“Confluence: Watercolors” by Judy Thompson exhibit on display January 12 – February 16
Dordt University will host an art exhibit titled “Confluence: Watercolors” by artist Judy Thompson. The exhibit will be open from Thursday, January 12 until Wednesday, February 22 in the Campus Center Art Gallery. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, February 16 at 7 p.m., with an artist talk at 7:15 p.m.
Judy Thompson is a watercolor artist whose artistic goal is to create contemporary watercolors that engage and connect the viewer to beautiful, yet complex, rural landscapes. In “Confluence: Watercolors,” Thompson shows how, when waterways meet, unexpected currents and new journeys can occur. Similarly, she says, when an artist meets an idea and puts paint to paper, things are bound to merge in new directions.
“‘Confluence’ gives homage to my artistic voyage with the medium of watercolor,” explains Thompson. “This fluid paint, which wants to run and flow across the page, is a current of energy – full of delights and challenges. It has inspired a wide variety of subjects, techniques, and approaches for my paintings.”
She hopes that, as viewers journey through the exhibit, they will enjoy, “as I have, the versatile, yet beautiful, qualities of watercolor.”
