Worship Arts alumnus Damon Groen releases EP "Unfinished"
Dordt University alumnus Damon Groen (’21) released a new EP titled “Unfinished” in collaboration with Dordt Worship Arts, and it is now streaming on all major digital distributors including Spotify.
The EP contains four songs written by Groen, with Worship Arts Technical Director Alex Priore and alumnus Rainanda Badudu (’19) contributing. The project features many musical offerings from Dordt students, staff, and faculty who provided harmonies, choral arrangements, and unique instrumental expressions including harp, cello, and saxophone.
“This project couldn’t have happened without the help of so many, and my hope is that it is all to the glory of the King. Soli Deo Gloria,” says Groen.
As a worship arts major, the EP served as Groen’s senior project and features songs written over the summer and fall of 2020 in the midst of much chaos and strife. The songs pull from many emotional and spiritual experiences, from exuberant praise to deep despair, and the comfort of God’s presence through it all.
Alongside theological and worship training, a unique offering of Dordt’s Bachelor of Worship Arts program is experiential learning in production and technology.
“At Dordt, our students get real world experience while they are studying,” says Dr. Jeremy Perigo, director of campus ministries and worship arts. “It such a delight to see a worship arts student finishing a professional-level recording project with original worship songs and creative arrangements as they finish their time here. I can’t wait to see how God uses Damon and our other recent grads as they are launched out equipped to serve.”
