Dordt nursing student to perform saxophone recital in BJ Haan Auditorium

Senior Nursing Major Sierra Meyer will hold a saxophone recital on Friday, January 31, at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at Dordt University.

Sierra Meyer, a senior nursing student from Doon, Iowa, will present a saxophone recital on Friday, January 31, at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at Dordt University.

Meyers’ program will feature the three movements of Sonata for Eb Saxophone and Piano by Paul Creston, Caprice en Forme de Valse by Paul Bonneau, and the first movement of Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Piano by Charles L. Booker. These pieces will showcase her versatility in both classical and jazz saxophone repertoire.

“I have grown a lot as a musician at Dordt,” says Meyer. “I’ve enjoyed being immersed in so many different musical settings—from solo performances, duets, and small ensembles to wind symphony and jazz band. I've especially enjoyed the opportunity to explore two distinct fields (nursing and music) that don't typically intersect.”

Mrs. Pamela De Haan will accompany Meyers on the piano.

“She has God-given talent at expressing music,” says De Haan. “She enjoys learning new things and has grown in her ability to express different styles, and the recital will reflect that.”
