Dordt University senior Alice Ymker will present her senior violin and organ recital on Friday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
The recital features a Mendelssohn organ sonata based on the choral tune "Vater unser," a violin/organ duet on "Be Thou My Vision," and "Souvenir de Sarasate," a lively fiddle-style piece with double-stops and left-hand pizzicato. Ymker will be accompanied by Dordt University seniors Jenna De Jong of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Karli Vreugdenhil of Orange City, Iowa.
Ymker, of Ireton, Iowa, is majoring in K-12 Instrumental Music Education. She has studied organ with Carrie Groenewold since 2020 and violin with Lisa Miedema since 2021. Ymker plays violin in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and the Dordt University Chamber Orchestra; plays euphonium in the Dordt Wind Symphony; and sings in the Dordt Chorale. She was awarded two scholarships through the National Federation of Music Clubs and recently traveled to the Netherlands as a student of the International Noordbroek Organ Academy.
