Dordt to host small ensembles recital on Saturday, November 23

Dordt University will host a small ensembles recital on Saturday, November 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The community is invited to the Small Ensembles recital on Saturday, November 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The recital will feature three ensembles: The Brass Ensemble, the Clarinet Quartet and the Saxophone Quartet. Each group will play several pieces in a variety of styles and genres, including jazz, classical, spirituals and hymn tunes. Befitting a concert in Iowa, there will also be a song entitled “Bloodthirsty Blizzard” by Chris Evan Hass.

Performers in the Brass Ensemble include:

Nathanael Herman, trumpet
Elliot Hoekstra, trumpet
Erin Howerzyl, trumpet
Kara De Berg, horn
Nathan Bakker, euphonium
Chris Tamisiea, euphonium
Andrew Chesebro, tuba

Playing in the Clarinet Quartet will be:

Courtney Joiner, Reyna Moss,
Emma Morrison, clarinet
Nia Hoekstra, bass clarinet

For their final piece “Bei Mir," the Clarinet Quartet will be joined by their instructor Dr. Beverly Gibson on clarinet and Matthew Taylor on the drum set.

The performers in the Saxophone Quartet are:

Sierra Meyer, alto saxophone and soprano saxophone
Breanna Ten Pas, soprano saxophone and alto saxophone
Brody Joens, tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone
Joshua Rathjen, baritone saxophone and tenor saxophone

Each of these performers will be playing more than one instrument during the concert.
