Dining commons and recital hall construction progressing at Dordt University
Dordt University’s dining commons and recital hall are progressing, with interior work accelerating after commencement to meet summer and fall deadlines.
“As an academic institution, we want to acknowledge the contributions of our faculty members to the broader conversations within their academic disciplines,” says Kroeze Visser.
Dordt University will hold an event featuring lighting talks and a showcase of peer-reviewed publications on Friday, April 25 at 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Hulst Library.
This event, titled “Dordt Writes: Journal Articles,” is sponsored by the Kielstra Center for Research and Grants as well as the Hulst Library.
Dr. Angela Kroeze Visser, director of the Kielstra Center, is looking forward to recognizing the importance of peer-reviewed journal articles in academic work.
“In some fields, a peer reviewed journal article is the most common way to share work,” she explains. “In the peer review process, other experts provide feedback on the quality of the work, and journal editors decide whether or not to publish the work based on that review. It is a way for scholars and researchers to enter into conversation with a broader field of interest and is an important way for faculty members to contribute to their field of study.”
There will be more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles on display in the Hulst Library, and there will be several lightning talks as well.
“Lightning talks are challenging for presenters because it requires distilling complex ideas into a very short format,” adds Kroeze Visser. “I hope attendees come away with a bit of new insight about God’s world and appreciation for the expertise of these faculty members.”
The community is invited to participate in “Dordt Writes: Journal Articles,” whether by listening to the lightning talks or speaking with the faculty members who have papers on display.
“As an academic institution, we want to acknowledge the contributions of our faculty members to the broader conversations within their academic disciplines,” says Kroeze Visser. “Whether the work is within science, theology, or the scholarship of teaching, our faculty members are contributing to important conversations.”
