Dordt University will host Blueprints, a solo exhibition by Kendall Houtsma from April 7 to May 10, exploring how life’s defining moments shape identity and personal growth, with an artist reception on April 10 at 7 p.m.
Dordt University is pleased to announce "Blueprints," a solo art exhibition by Kendall Houtsma, which will be on display from April 7 through May 10 at the entrance to the Nursing Wing. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
"Blueprints" is an exploration of life's defining moments, highlighting how experiences—both joyful and challenging—shape an individual’s identity and journey. Through this exhibit, Houtsma invites viewers to reflect on the pivotal moments that contribute to their own personal growth and formation.
“Life is a collection of moments, each one shaping and refining the blueprint of who we are meant to become,” says Houtsma. “Every moment, good or bad, is a gift from God that we should be grateful for. 'Blueprints' explores those pivotal moments that aid in the divine artistry of our lives.”
The title "Blueprints" also reflects Houtsma’s academic focus in Pre-Architectural Design. While architecture requires careful planning and precise blueprints, personal growth also follows a design shaped by experiences and inspirations. This exhibit serves as a bridge between Houtsma’s architectural interests and artistic expression beyond the realm of structural design.
“I want this installation to not only showcase my artistic work but also acknowledge my passion for architecture. Just as blueprints are essential for constructing a building, we all have experiences that help build who we are,” Houtsma adds. “Through this exhibition, my goal is to invite you to reflect on your own ‘blueprints’—the moments that have shaped your identity.”
