Dordt University shifts on-campus parking as construction continues

Dordt University has made adjustments to on-campus parking while continuing with significant construction projects to enhance campus facilities, including a new dining commons and B.J. Haan Auditorium expansion, which will be completed in 2025.

As Dordt University students return to campus for the 2024-25 academic year, they will notice some changes in on-campus parking due to ongoing construction projects.

Approximately 100 additional parking spots have been added to Dordt's campus for residential student parking, many of which are located in Lot 16. Lot 2B, located near the Squares Apartments, will now serve as guest and Recreation Center parking, to accommodate the parking spots lost to construction between the B.J. Haan Auditorium and Kuyper Apartments.

Physical maps are available at the Information Desk in the Campus Center.

Construction of Dordt’s new dining commons and B.J. Haan Auditorium expansion began in earnest this summer. Crews completed initial dirt work, poured foundations, and put in utilities. Steel structures will begin to take shape this fall.

The new dining commons will connect the Campus Center and the B.J. Haan Auditorium and will be more centrally located on campus. The recital hall / band room will be a space where musicians and others can practice and perform for small audiences. It is anticipated that both projects will be complete by 2025.

Campus is under construction with promise for what the future holds, says Vice President of Operations Fred Verwoerd. “As with any construction project, it looks messy, but it’s a good mess,” he adds. “The interim process will be filled with noise, vibration, and plenty of dirt, but it’s going to be beautiful once construction is complete.”
