“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand”
"As our institution navigates these discussions, we stand firm in our faith, knowing that our ultimate hope is not in human institutions or ideologies, but in Christ alone."
Dordt senior Jakob Kamp's senior art exhibit, "Metzudah," will be on display in the Hulst Library from April 14 through the summer.
The community is invited to view “Metzudah,” the senior art exhibit of Jakob Kamp, a fine arts studio and theatre arts major from Orange City, Iowa. The exhibit is free to attend and will be on display at the Hulst Library’s upper level from April 14 through the summer.
“Metzudah” is a collection of paintings on canvas, prepared wood panels, and other mixed media surfaces. Kamp says he draws inspiration for his work from his experiences, the places he’s visited, and his faith. “This is represented either concretely or more abstractly in the paintings I’ve made. Specific inspirations vary from piece to piece, but I also love to pull inspiration from other artists, music, and from the people around me,” Kamp explains.
The title of the exhibit translates from Hebrew as "refuge" or "fortress." Kamp says this concept of refuge is central to his work, “pointing to the refuge found in sacred spaces such as cathedrals and churches as well as spaces that aren’t specifically sacred.”
An artist reception, where attendees can meet Kamp and learn more about his work, will be held on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m.
