Dordt University anticipates construction projects this spring and summer
This spring and summer, Dordt University plans to begin several construction projects to help free up more living and learning space as the institution continues to grow.
Dordt University will hold the 2023 Cultural Fair on Saturday, February 18, from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Campus Center. The event, which will feature exhibition booths and performances, is open to the public.
The Cultural Fair will provide a window into cultures from around the world, says David Lee, global studies program specialist.
“The exhibition booths will take people on a quick yet rich journey to different countries around the globe, where they will interact with native residents, learn interesting facts about cultures, engage firsthand in different cultural activities, and try various ethnic foods,” says Lee. “The performance portion of the event consists of students and employees from Dordt and Northwestern College showcasing their talents and traditional clothing.”
Throughout the event, visitors will get to participate in fun games. There will be raffles and prizes for winners.
At Dordt, more than 30 countries are represented in the student body, and about 10 percent of the student body come from outside of the United States. Lee says that the Cultural Fair helps Dordt to live into the institution’s vision for racial and ethnic diversity, which states that “Dordt University aspires to be a diverse, covenant community created by the Father, identified in Jesus Christ, united by the Holy Spirit, and equipped for Kingdom service.”
“The Cultural Fair strikes different chords for each person,” adds Lee. “Some simply appreciate the different cultures, languages, and foods just for that evening. Some students are inspired by the event and decide to participate in AMOR or PLIA, or they decide to study abroad. Others are able to engage a little more deeply and use this event as a stepping stone to gain a better understanding of international experiences. All these responses are valuable.”
