Dordt University to hold two commencement ceremonies on May 10

The separate ceremony for graduate students highlights their unique accomplishments, including challenges faced as working adults or parents, providing space for their families and friends.

On May 10, there will be two commencement ceremonies held on the campus of Dordt University.

The undergraduate commencement ceremony will take place on Friday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The graduate commencement and hooding ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

This is the first year in Dordt’s history where two commencement ceremonies will take place. The decision was made in part due to the growth of the master’s programs at Dordt and the interest that graduate students had in attending the graduation ceremony.

Joe Bakker, dean for online, graduate, and partner programs, is looking forward to having a separate commencement ceremony for graduate students. “A separate ceremony for master’s students provides a time to celebrate their unique accomplishments of graduating from a master’s program,” he says.

The journey through a master’s program often includes a different set of challenges, especially for those navigating studies as working adults or parents. “A separate ceremony allows a little time to specifically acknowledge the work of graduate students and to provide more space for their family and friends,” adds Bakker.

Designed with flexibility and personalization in mind, Dordt’s graduate programs are a great option for full-time professionals juggling numerous responsibilities in addition to their schoolwork. Dordt currently offers the following graduate programs:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.)
  • Master of Public Administration (MPA)
  • Master of Social Work (MSW)
  • Master of Special Education (M.SpEd)
