Courtney Joiner, a junior studying Music: Performance & Pedagogy and Computer Science major at Dordt University, will give a student recital on Saturday, November 2.

Joiner will perform on clarinet. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Pam De Haan, tutorial adjunct of music at Dordt.

The recital will begin at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

According to Joiner, her recital will include “a variety of musical styles, ranging from romantic to Klezmer. Each piece is played in a different style, with some pieces combining multiple.”

“One of my favorite pieces is Wait a While, written by Irish saxophonist Kenneth Edge. It combines Irish folk music and Jazz, creating a wild and exciting piece that pays homage to Edge’s heritage,” she adds.

Joiner has been studying under Dr. Beverly Gibson, tutorial adjunct of music at Dordt, since 2022. She has also received an Honorable Mention in the Iowa MTNA Young Artist Competition.

“Joiner’s recital represents a diverse array of music which will showcase her technical and musical prowess,” says Gibson.
