Dordt University will host a small ensemble concert featuring two student-led groups and two faculty-led groups on Monday, April 28th at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The concert is free to attend and open to the public.
The concert will include performances by the percussion ensemble, brass ensemble, clarinet ensemble, and saxophone ensemble.
The percussion ensemble, led by Tori Ensink and comprised of the top six chairs in the Wind Symphony at Dordt, will perform “Celebration II,” a lively marimba piece by Daiki Kato played by five percussionists. They will also premiere an original work by Dordt student Josh Kroese.
The brass and clarinet ensembles will both perform arrangements of J.S. Bach’s “Brandenburg Concertos.” The brass ensemble is led by Andrew Chesebro.
The saxophone ensemble will include Dordt alumna Sarah Goetsch of Sioux City, who arranged “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” for five saxophones. The group will also perform “Lower East Side,” a jazz-influenced piece that reflects the rich cultural and musical character of New York City’s Lower East Side, with nods to traditional Jewish musical modes.
