Dordt University will welcome Dr. Alexander Meszler, college organist and assistant professor of music at Luther College, to campus on Friday. October 18. This concert is part of the Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series, which features two guest performances per academic year.
Meszler’s recital will begin at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
"The performance, titled 'Visions of Home,' features an eclectic program including a variety of organ music, with some selections by living composers, including a piece that uses recorded sounds from Iowa forests," says Dr. Carrie Groenewold, associate professor of music at Dordt University.
In addition to the recital, Meszler will also host a masterclass at 3:10 p.m.
“The masterclass will feature Dordt organ students who will play pieces and receive feedback from Dr. Meszler,” says Groenewold.
Groenewold says she is excited to welcome Meszler to campus, as he “represents Luther College with its long-standing and highly respected music program.” She adds, “These collaborations between neighboring Iowa schools are beneficial for our students, faculty, and university as a whole.”
“The Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series is a tremendous gift for our students and community,” says Groenewold. “It allows our students to interact with respected artists and learn through masterful performances and teaching. It also celebrates and stewards the resource of our beautiful Casavant pipe organ in our auditorium.”
The Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series seeks to promote the organ and its repertoire for the musical education and enjoyment of students, alumni, and the community by bringing celebrated organists to Dordt University.
