Dordt University’s Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series to feature Duo Majoya

The Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series at Dordt University will include a performance and masterclasses by Duo Majoya on April 4-5.

Dordt University will host Duo Majoya on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, as part of the Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series. By bringing distinguished guest performers to campus twice per academic year, the The Ringerwole Organ Recital series seeks to promote the organ and its repertoire for the musical education and enjoyment of students, alumni, and the community.

The program will begin on Friday, April 4, with an organ masterclass from 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and a piano masterclass from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, April 5, the duo will host a workshop, Musical Leadership in the Church, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

"I hope that masterclass attendees will be inspired by their teaching and will gain new interpretive ideas for playing the piano and organ. Saturday morning’s workshop will focus on musical leadership in the church, a useful topic for students and community members alike," says Dr. Carrie Groenewold, associate professor of music and Joan Ringerwole Chair of church music and organ at Dordt.

The weekend will culminate in a recital on Saturday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m., showcasing the duo’s dynamic musical talents in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. "Collaborative performance is Duo Majoya's artistic specialty, and I’m excited for them to showcase organ and piano works for four hands," adds Groenewold.

All events will take place in the B.J. Haan Auditorium and are open for the public to attend.

Duo Majoya, comprised of Dr. Marnie Giesbrecht, professor emerita at the University of Alberta, and Dr. Joachim Segger, professor emeritus at The King’s University, performs and records original, commissioned, and arranged works, including over twenty compositions for organ duet and organ/piano. Inducted into the Edmonton Cultural Hall of Fame, they hold leadership roles in the Royal Canadian College of Organists and contribute to community music and church activities in Edmonton.
