Dordt University will hold a series of music ensemble concerts on May 1 and 2, highlighting performances by the Music department's choral and instrumental ensembles.
The Music department at Dordt University invites the community to attend a series of spring ensemble concerts. These events are free and open to the public.
The instrumental ensembles concert will be held on Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. It will feature the Campus-Community band, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Symphony. The program includes music performances ranging from classics to modern works by 21st century composers, culminating with the Wind Symphony’s presentation of “Symphony No. 7” by Davis Maslanka.
The choral ensembles concert will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. It will feature four Dordt choral groups: Belle Voce (women’s chorus), directed by Dr. Carrie Groenewold; Canons of Dordt (men’s chorus), directed by Tim Van Voorst; and Chorale and Concert Choir, both directed by Dr. Ryan Smit. The program includes a wide range of choral music, from classic works by Mendelssohn, Pablo Casals and Randall Thompson to modern arrangements of psalms, folk songs and pop tunes, as well as new works by 21st-century composers.

Dordt University will host a small ensembles concert on Monday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will include two student-led groups and two faculty-led groups.
Ada Smies, a sophomore at Dordt University studying secondary STEM education, has been named a Noyce Scholar. She will also serve as an intern in the university’s Gibson Research Lab.
