The Dordt University Wind Symphony has been selected by blind peer review as one of seven small college bands to be recognized at the upcoming National Conference of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Out of hundreds of nationwide applicants, this distinguished recognition highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of the Wind Symphony and its director, Dr. Onsby Rose. “Only seven universities were selected throughout the entire nation,” says Rose. “Our wind symphony is made up of students from all majors and all walks of life. The fact that they can produce a musical product at this level of excellence is illustrative of the great community of believers and musicians that we have here.”
While the ensemble will not travel for the event, Rose will present a session at the conference on Saturday, March 29. As part of the presentation, attendees will hear recordings of past performances from the Wind Symphony.
“This recognition reflects the hard work and passion of our talented student musicians and the commitment to excellence that has defined Dordt’s music program,” says Rose. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to share our work on the national stage with the broader community of collegiate band directors.”
This accomplishment not only highlights the skill and dedication of Dordt students, but it also reflects the university’s commitment to helping students use their gifts for Christ-centered renewal in all areas of life. “Many students in the wind symphony are not studying music as a vocation, but primarily as a way to utilize their gifts,” says Rose. “However, we also have strong programs to train students as music educators for the future, in which we can continue to teach all of God’s people how to excel at, enjoy, and celebrate His gift of music.”
