Dordt worship arts releases their first live album
The Dordt University Worship Arts Department has released its first live album, Chapel Moments Vol. 1, recorded in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
“In the midst of the challenges of a global pandemic, we wanted to share moments from our Dordt chapel where all year we centered our worship on God’s activity and focused on his Word,” says Dr. Jeremy Perigo, director of campus ministries and worship arts. “These songs were specifically chosen to simultaneously allow us to bring our pain and prayers into God’s presence and to remind and re-orient us to the truth that God is good and gives garments of praise for heaviness.”
The album includes six worship moments, and features Dordt students from various academic programs, staff, and faculty, and a curricular ensemble that supports worship and campus ministries at Dordt.
“I have gotten to be a part of things as a freshman that I never thought I would ever be involved in at Dordt,” says Emily Wedel, a nursing major. “This is God opening some amazing doors here. At Dordt, I can pursue what I love in nursing and what I love in worship.”
“It was awesome to have this experience as a senior worship arts major,” says Damon Groen. “I've had a lot of experience in leading worship with a congregation in front of me, but to be able to worship with the people involved in this project, and to see different parts of the process, was a new frontier, and it was really fun.”
The album reveals a breadth of musical expression from Our Father, a translated Turkish hymn, to Graves Into Gardens, a recent modern worship cover.
“Every student involved in this project demonstrated a heart of worship, a hunger for the presence of the Lord, and a dedication to excellence,” says Alex Priore, worship arts technical director. “This album, which is full of moments of genuine worship and heartfelt prayer, is a musical reflection of the spiritual heartbeat of the university.”
