Dordt University’s Worship Arts Department and Production Arts team is releasing seven singles featuring contemporary worship songs.
The first single, “Lion,” featured Isaac Rohn (Business, ’23) and was released in May 2023. The second single, “New Wine/Beautiful Things” was released on September 26 and features Emma McGaughey (Art, ’23).
The next release will be on October 23, and will feature current student Nicole Mahoney (Worship Arts) singing “You Reign Above It All.”
“Recording some of our students’ work, gives us an opportunity to share what God is doing at Dordt with the larger community,” says Rev. Dr. Jeremy Perigo, professor of theology and worship arts. “We can glorify God in the music and through the process of recording. Additionally, students in worship arts and production are gaining unique skills that are different than leading worship in a live setting.”
Students learn to collaborate and project manage, in addition to gaining skills in using microphones, recording software, and playing and singing in the studio.
Perigo states that recording and production skills are becoming more necessary in today’s culture, and these projects are the first professional recording experience for many of the students.
“It is fantastic to see students learning how to utilize professional recording software and collaborating around creating a unique musical project,” says Perigo.
Perigo has partnered with Alex Priore, Dordt’s director of production arts to walk alongside these students as they produce the singles.
The last of the four singles will be released once a month in the coming months. Those songs include: “Evidence/You Hold It All Together,” "Holy Water,” “I Thank God," and “Glorious Day."
The singles will be available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify.
