Dordt’s 2024 BSN graduates achieve 100% NCLEX pass rate

Dordt University's Nursing Department celebrates a 100% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX exam for its BSN Class of 2024, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in preparing students for nursing practice through quality education and strong faculty support rooted in a Christian perspective.

Dordt University’s Nursing Department is thrilled to announce that 100% of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students in the class of 2024 passed the NCLEX exam on their first attempt.

“This means our graduates’ hard work paid off and that they can enter their profession with confidence,” says Dr. Deb Bomgaars, professor of nursing at Dordt. “It also means that Dordt’s nursing program is on the right track, that we are preparing students for nursing practice and for licensure.”

The NCLEX is meant to measure clinical judgment of nursing students and ensure they can provide safe care, adds Dr. Deb Kleinwolterink, associate professor of nursing. “It must ensure that students can think critically to achieve positive patient outcomes.”

Bomgaars says that, while the nursing students were studying for the NCLEX, Dordt nursing faculty “prayed for every student daily and especially on the day that they were scheduled to take the NCLEX.”

“We keep track of when students are scheduled to take the NCLEX and want to know how it went,” adds Bomgaars. “Even though they graduated, they will always be our students, and we want to make sure they know we care.”

With experienced faculty and an excellent nursing facility, Dordt’s nursing program gives students a place to practice before they head out into the nursing field.

“Dordt’s nursing program prepares students to be distinctively Christian nurses, ready to step into the complex health care system with critical thinking, clinical judgment, and skills needed to provide safe care,” says Dr. Melanie Wynja, professor of nursing and simulation director.
