Dr. Matthew Beimers to serve as Dordt’s 2024 commencement speaker

Dr. Matthew Beimers will serve as speaker at Dordt University’s two commencement ceremonies.

Dr. Matthew Beimers will serve as speaker at Dordt University’s two commencement ceremonies:

  • The undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
  • The graduate commencement and hooding ceremony will take place on Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Beimers’ address will focus on the theme of what it means to pay attention.

Beimers is an Associate Professor of Education and the Director of the highly regarded School Leadership Program at Dordt University. With a rich background in education and leadership, Beimers has served in Christian education for over 30 years and is dedicated to preparing future educators and administrators to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives. Beimers previously worked in British Columbia and Montana in roles such as teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

Beimers’ address will focus on the theme of what it means to pay attention.

Beimers holds an Ed.D. in School Leadership from George Fox University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Dordt University. His research interests include school leadership, school culture, and the intersection of faith and learning in educational settings.

A thought leader in education, Beimers contributes to the Hallway Conversations podcast with Professors of Education Dr. Dave Mulder and Dr. Abby DeGroot. Beimers’ dedication to lifelong learning, collaboration, and student success is a hallmark of his work both in and outside the classroom.

What Beimers enjoys most about teaching at Dordt University is students’ passion for connecting their faith to their learning and life. “I also appreciate working at an institution with a capacious vision of what God calls us to bear witness to in the Word,” he says.
