Dordt University and Sioux Center Health continue to build on their longstanding partnership in providing high-quality athletic training services for student-athletes.
“Our partnership allows us to provide comprehensive care right here in the community,” said Andrew Geleynse, Outpatient Services Officer at Sioux Center Health. “For many student-athletes, traveling to Sioux Falls or Sioux City for specialized care is not always feasible. Through this collaboration, we can streamline access to orthopedic specialists, physical therapy, and immediate athletic training services.”
Under the partnership, athletic trainers are employed by Sioux Center Health, with costs shared between the two institutions. The trainers work closely with area physicians to ensure student-athletes receive timely and effective treatment. Additionally, a Sioux Center Health physical therapist visits Dordt’s campus three times a week to provide specialized services such as dry needling and joint mobilization.
To further enhance services provided to Dordt athletes, Sioux Center Health hired a physical therapist who is housed at the American State Bank Sports Complex. Along with patients from the community, Dordt University athletes are treated at this location. The proximity to Dordt University has allowed easier access for student athletes; in addition, this has fostered even better communication between athletic trainers and physical therapy.
Each athletic trainer is assigned to specific teams, providing personalized care and injury management throughout the season. Trainers are available during the day for individual appointments, hold open slots for walk-ins before practices, and provide on-site support during games.
“The athletic trainer role is essential for our mission at Sioux Center Health,” Geleynse added. “We want to keep care as local as possible, not only for Dordt’s athletes but for the broader community. This current open position will further enhance the level of care we can provide to our student-athletes.”
With the critical role of trainers in sports medicine, Sioux Center Health invites qualified candidates to apply for this new opportunity. Those interested in learning more about the position can visit jobs.siouxcenterhealth.org.
