Dr. Craig Stiemsma
Professor of Health & Human Performance
Dr. Craig Stiemsma serves as the department chair and associate professor in the Health and Human Performance (HHP) department at Dordt University. His faith deeply influences his work, as he views it as his compass and filter for teaching and guiding students.
Dr. Stiemsma's professional background includes vast experience as both a teacher and coach at San Jose Christian School in California and Western Christian School in Iowa, where he honed his skills in education and student development. His areas of expertise is in kinesiology, with focuses on motor learning, sports psychology, and substance abuse.
Dr. Stiemsma's professional writing and presentations focus on enhancing education and practices in kinesiology. His co-authored article in Kinesiology Review examines best practices for kinesiology internships. He has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report, providing expert advice on navigating physical therapy school admissions. Additionally, Dr. Stiemsma has presented at numerous conferences, including the American Kinesiology Association, sharing his expertise on internship best practices and coaching strategies.
Dr. Stiemsma has made significant contributions to the Dordt community outside of the classroom, including his current roles advising in the Pre-Physical Therapy club and serving on the Graduate Education committee and Online Learning Task Force. Additionally, he previously served as head coach for the women’s basketball and men’s soccer teams.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dr. Stiemsma enjoys a variety of active hobbies, such as jogging, lifting weights, pickleball, and racquetball.
