Mark Volkers
Instructor of Digital Media Production
After serving for seven years as a missionary in an African village, Mark Volkers roamed the planet for a decade as a photojournalist and documentary film maker for the Christian Reformed Church and other organizations. His films about the cultures, people and places of the world have earned him over 50 national and international awards.
In 2005, Mark and his family moved to NW Iowa to help Dordt University launch a new program in production and media studies. Mark wants to see students graduate from Dordt who can think critically about issues in today's world--especially as they relate to media--and who have the ability to go out and produce content worth consuming. Check out Volkers' blog, part of the homepage link above.
One of the (many) things that makes Dordt's digital media program so unique is the strong combination of in-class instruction and out-of-class experience that helps you prepare for life after college. Our students have shot films ... well, all over the place. We've done client work across the entire country of Mexico. We've shot numerous times in India. We've done promo pieces down in the Mississippi Delta, among the Navaho of New Mexico, we've done work for Iowa State University, for local schools, and for corporations. We have won awards in South Africa and in Iowa and lots of places in between.
Professor Volkers' unique background and his connections with many different types of organizations translate into world-class opportunities for students to do real projects while still students at Dordt University. It's a win-win situation! And because Volkers is Avid Certified (one of the few Avid Certified Instructors in the State of Iowa), you can be sure you're getting the best training possible.
