Dr. Teresa Ter Haar

Professor of Theatre Arts

Dr. Teresa Ter Haar is professor and chair of the Theatre Arts Department at Dordt University, where she teaches courses including Theatre History, The Good Design of Limits, and Educational Theatre.

“In the Theatre Arts Department at Dordt University, I have the unique opportunity to cultivate both artistry and purpose with my students,” she explains. “By weaving together storytelling, creativity, and faith, students explore their God-given talents, connect with diverse perspectives, and use the transformative power of theatre to open up spaces of growth within themselves and others.”

Dr. Ter Haar’s research interests include theatre pedagogy, educational theatre, and the history of directing. Before joining Dordt, she taught at Trinity Christian College, where she established a full theatre program, including both a major and minor. She also served at Calvin College, teaching communication and theatre courses and directing stage productions.

In addition to her teaching and leadership roles, Dr. Ter Haar serves on Dordt’s Core Program Committee. She received the Dordt University Teaching Excellence Award in 2017.

Outside of academia, she volunteers at a Christian youth ranch and enjoys horseback riding, gardening, and reading.
